The Eugene Bonsai Society provides a great learning experience for beginners and members. There is a program at each meeting that demonstrates some aspect of bonsai cultivation and maintenance and there are also programs such as the Christmas Party and field trips that are fun and strengthen camaraderie between members and friends. Workshops
In addition to the great programs offered at the monthly meetings the Eugene Bonsai Society offers membership participation in workshops that are hosted by bonsai masters and authors of well-known bonsai source books. Members are encouraged to bring a tree and get hands-on training, working with their tree as the master demonstrates. So much knowledge can be had at one of these special workshops.

Eugene Bonsai Club Workshop Schedule
We start the year with our annual Beginners' Workshop, held at our March 1 meeting.
Also for 2012:
Saturday March 17th from 9 AM to 4 PM at the EPUD meeting room. Alan Taft, a long time bonsai expert from Portland, will be teaching this BYOT (Bring Your Own Tree) class. All trees are welcome, especially the returning "Project Old Growth Boxwoods". This workshop is for everyone at any level of bonsai knowledge. Bring your own trees, pots, supplies, wire, tools, etc. Cost is only $40 and is due by the March meeting. As always, observers are welcome.
Beginners' Workshop on Saturday, March 31st from 9 AM to 4 PM at the EPUD meeting room. This workshop is tailored to bonsai enthusiasts who are newer to the hobby, no previous bonsai experience or knowledge is necessary. It will be taught by Alan Taft. This workshop will be split into two sessions of 3 hours each. In each session, the participants will be supplied with a Shimpaku Juniper to pot and prune and style with Alan's help. Bring your own tools, other supplies will be provided by the club. The cost is only $25 for the 3 hour session, sign up for either the morning or afternoon class. Observers and helpers are welcome.
The third workshop is on Saturday, October 27th, from 9 AM to 4 PM at EPUD It will be taught by Alan Taft and is a BYOT class The cost is $40, and observers are welcome.
EPUD (Emerald Peoples Utility District) is located at 33733 Seavey Loop Rd. which is close to the I-5 and 30th Ave interchange.
The club is subsidizing the cost of these workshops to make them very affordable. EPUD is also graciously giving us the use of their beautiful meeting room at no cost. These workshops are for your education and enjoyment, please participate!!! You will have a good time, learn something new about bonsai, and help your trees along! Displays
One of the best ways to let the community know about bonsai is the presence of the society at various annual events. The Eugene Bonsai Society hosts annual displays of members' bonsai at the Asian Celebration, Obon Festival, and other events. Upcoming Displays:

GSBF Bonsai-A-Thon XVI at The Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens, 1151 Oxford Road. This is the annual fundraiser for the GSBF Collection at The Huntington. Admission to the event and to the Huntington Gardens is free with Bonsai-A-Thon “Early Bird” Registration. Hours are 7:30AM-4:30PM, both days. A pancake breakfast, a tour hosted by Jim Folsom (Director of the Garden), demonstrations, lunch, bonsai exhibits, large sales area, raffle, and an auction will all be featured. GSBF Bonsai Garden at Lake Merritt: Mammoth Fundraiser, 2012 at the Lakeside Garden Center, 666 Bellevue Avenue. On Saturday an auction of fabulous bonsai will be from 1-4PM, with preview at 12Noon.
